Bjarne Brøndbo // Salmer på Ville Veier // CD
Bjarne Brøndbo, the hugely popular stage personality and singer in the Norwegian band DDE, has made a record of hymns. Well, there are hymns and then there are hymns ....
You won't find these in the hymnbook, though perhaps some of them should have been there! With Geir Sundstøl on guitars, dobro and banjo, Stein Erik Tafjord on tuba, Rune Arnesen on drums and Terje Tranaas on organ, Bjarne Brøndbo lifts these songs right from the rough-and-tumble life of vagrants, minstrels and wandering poets, performing them before the alter so that the fragrance of wild flowers, petrol and earth permeates the entire church.
Accompanied by Eirik Øyen's double bass and the brass horns of Jarle and Helge Førde we can hear "Där rosor aldrig dör" (Where roses never die), "Songen" (Song) by Bjørn Eidsvåg, "Mesteren" (The Master) by Rudolf Nilsen and "Var det du, Jesus" (Was that you, Jesus) by Åge Aleksandersen in interpretations that reveal Bjarne Brøndbo's exceptional singing talent.
Another classic CD from Kirkelig Kulturverksted, featuring the audio mixing wizardry of Per Sveinsson. Produced by Erik Hillestad.
