Jørn Simen Øverli // Sannheten og Løgnen // CD
When Jørn Simen Øverli sings, you get plenty of content and very little stash. He is known for having brought Eastern European song poet Vladimir Vysotskij’s songs to Norway. He is also known for having created furore in Norwegian media with his interpretations of Prøysen, one of Norway’s most treasured songwriters. We have now collected the very best of Jørn Simen on one CD.
Since 1987, Jørn Simen Øverli has played 1200 concerts at home and abroad, with his repertoire of characteristic interpretations of Russia’s great guitar poet, Vladimir Vysotskij. He has done some invaluable work in bringing these and other Eastern European songs across to Norwegian audiences.
Nothing that Jørn Simen does is A4. Not so surprising then, that he created furore among journalists and Prøysen followers with his Prøysen interpretations in 1992. But controversial art tends to become accepted with time. And so today, Prøysen followers claim that Øverli is one of the frontrunners in carrying forward Prøysen’s spirit, mainly thanks to his record from 1992.
Jørn Simen has for many years, together with Kari Svendsen and Lars Klevstrand, been running one of Norway’s most important song- and ballad clubs, Josefine Viseklubb in Oslo. By welcoming young new talents as well as providing a musical meeting place for the wellestablished singers, this club has contributed enormously to the Norwegian song and ballad culture.
We take great pleasure in bringing you this collection of the very best from Jørn Simen.
