KKV's Umpteen Years Anniversary

KKV was 40 years old in 2014. The number 40 means "many" in Oriental traditions. The anniversary begins with a collection of highlights from a catalogue of 400 albums, most created against the current of the time.

The pioneering enterprise KKV, Norway's oldest record company, has the nation's most exciting back catalogue. To celebrate our 40 years, this spring we will release a collectors' box with four CDs, one for each decade. We have titled this varied and rewarding playlist "40 Years' Credibility".

The collection includes favourites from the earliest albums of many artists, a whole swarm of whom have made their debuts as solo artists on KKV over the years: Bjørn Eidsvåg, Kari Bremnes, Sigvart Dagsland, Kenneth Sivertsen, Sondre Bratland, SKRUK, Ragnar Vigdal, Arve Moen Bergset, Iver Kleive, Knut Reiersrud, the Norwegian Chamber Choir, Jørn Simen Øverli, Ryfylke Visegruppe, Deeyah (Deepika Thataal), Marianne Antonsen, Øystein Wingaard Wolf, Synnøve Rognlien, Ellen Sofie Hovland and many more. On the anniversary release we meet them in the company of Erik Bye, Ketil Bjørnstad, Randi Stene, Ole Paus, Grethe Svensen, Bjarne Brøndboe, Agnes Buen Garnås, Katia Cardenal, Rim Banna, Mahsa Vahdat, Inger Lise Rypdal, Anita Skorgan, Povl Dissing and Carola.

The collection also offers two tracks never before released on CD: A beautiful song by Henning Sommerro performed by Arnfinn Haram, now sadly passed away, and a track from Egil Hovland's All Saints Mass from the LP series "New Church Music".

The fact that the collection has been given an English title reveals something about the development of KKV, bearing in mind our history as one of the most important standard-bearers for the Norwegian language and dialects. In the course of the last ten years our catalogue has been enriched by many international releases, not least from the Middle East, where some trendsetting artists have gained a platform for an international career through KKV. Our percentage of sales abroad is steadily rising, and our web shop is visited daily by customers from all parts of the globe.

The four CDs have each their own titles that characterise KKV's profile: "Denying the dividing lines between the sacred and the profane", "Breaking traditions to maintain traditions", "Journeys between West and East and back and forth in time" and "The challenge of contrasts between East and West".

For our 30-year anniversary we released "30 Years' Fidelity", a CD with its main focus on KKV's highly praised sound quality. This time the emphasis is on content, ideology and musical ideas. The release is furnished with information about the albums each track is taken from. The photos are from Kulturkirken Jakob, the consecrated church building which has been KKV's haunt and live stage since 2000.

The final song of the collection is "Vår Far" [Our Father], the Lord's Prayer performed in Jesus' native language, Aramaic, taken from SKRUK's CD from 2013: "Sangen fra Katakombene" [The Song from the Catacombs].
