Rita Eriksen & Dolores Keane // Tideland // CD
New interpretations of songs from two coasts of the same sea.
Norwegian Rita Eriksen and Irish Dolores Keane have met by the North sea and created the record “Tideland” together. This unique musical encounter between Rita Eriksen and Dolores Keane culminated in an intense recording recording session at Ackergille Tower on the North sea coast of Scotland in the middle of October 1996. Both Norwegian and Irish musicians where brought along to the castle to play the folk tunes that the two women had chosen to sing.
They sing six songs each as well as one duet which was written for the occasion by John Faulkner, “The great Northern Ocean”.
Dolores Keane is often called “The Voice” home in Ireland and has released or participated on 26 records so far, with among others De Dannann, John Faulkner, Emmylou Harris, Mary Black and the Chieftians. Nanci Griffith has said about her: ”As long as Dolores Keane is walking around on earth , I won’t call myself a singer, I think she’s the voice of Ireland. (..) I want the world to hear her voice.”
