The greatest hymns of all time
Featuring Norway’s most expressive male voice
Sigvart Dagsland has recorded his second album of hymns, simply called Hymns. He has been joined by British blues guitar player Snowy White (Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, Roger Waters) and legendary trumpet player Lew Soloff from New York (Blood Sweat and Tears), who join with organist and piano player Iver Kleive to accompany him as he sings the most popular international hymns of all time. The album was recorded in two churches in the New York and New Jersey area, featuring a powerful Romantic church organ from 1928, built in Princeton University Chapel by Ernest M. Skinner, in addition to a Hammond B3 and a grand piano.
Nobody sings hymns as Sigvart Dagsland does. He is a unique interpreter of hymns as special experiences distilled with belief, expressing the inexpressible tension between closeness, vulnerability and the almighty.
These hymns are generally performed in the language they were written in. We hear "How great Thou art", "Abide with me", "Nearer my God to Thee" and "Amazing Grace".
The record was produced by Erik Hillestad, while Iver Kleive is responsible for most of the arrangements.
