Susanne Lundeng // Vals til den røde fela // CD
Susanne Lundeng has done it again!
This is her fourth solo album, the previous ones being Havella (1991), Drag (1994) and Ættesyn (1997).
”Vals til den røde fela” is above all a lyrical album, with a great deal of character and a form of expression that Susanne Lundeng keeps on developing. She expresses moods; both serious and humorous, both sorrow and joyfulness.
On this recording Susanne has composed all the music herself. Her particular form of expression is deeply rooted in traditional music, but also gathers inspiration and elements from other genres. This is a purely instrumental recording. We detect elements of both jazz and rock, and also sense the resonance and musical openness that characterizes contemporary music.
Susanne is a folk musician who holds a big audience both in Norway and abroad. As an example, her last recording, ”Ættesyn”, sold over 10,000 copies in Korea. It is now three years since ”Ættesyn” was released and this new Lundeng recording is eagerly awaited. With ”Vals til den røde fela” she has further developed her musical characteristics and the unmistakable Lundeng sound. She makes folk music accessable to a broad audience. With this recording she is likely to fascinate even more people, both at home and abroad.
Susanne is gifted with a natural talent. She started playing the fiddle when she was 9, and gathered most of her musical knowledge through old fiddle players in the Salten and Lofoten area. This was unknown territory to most traditional folk music players and therefore particularly interesting for Susanne to explore. By adding a lot of herself, she comes up with original musical solutions. This is an album for anyone with a sense for the lyrical.
